Wormser’s stories have languished in an undeserved obscurity for many years, with the single reprinting of any of her tales being in David Hartwell’s mass-market paperback anthology, Bodies of the Dead (1997), which included “The Scarecrow.” This present volume should, we hope, remedy this deficiency, and make her writings available to those who will appreciate her introspective type of psychological horror. This collection is expanded from the original edition of The Scarecrow and includes five additional tales, making this book the complete repository of G. Ranger Wormser’s weird and supernatural fiction. Noted scholar Douglas A. Anderson has provided an introduction, which reveals a good deal of previously unknown information about the author. Cover art and interior portrait by Allen Koszowski.

"The stories in the present collection have a certain unity of effect in that they deal with the uncanny, the transcendental... Miss Wormser’s stories are worthy to stand beside the work of Blackwood..."
