Tempter is Nancy A. Collins' second novel. When she submitted her proposal to her publisher it was met with an enthusiastic response. However, they wanted her to add vampires (this was at the height of Anne Rice's popularity). Collins did so, reluctantly, as the book's focus was to be on voodoo. Now, Gauntlet is NOT just issuing a classic-revisited of the original, but a TOTAL rewrite of the book as Collins envisioned it. The vampires are gone and nearly every page has been rewritten. If you've read the original this version of TEMPTER reads like a new novel. Regardless, it's Collins at her best and the book as she intended. Cover art is by Alan M. Clark. Both the numbered and lettered editions contain handwritten notes and passages from both the original and the rewrite. Signed by both Collins and Clark.
