No Traveller Returns

Having gone to climb a mountain, Paul finds himself left with Harish who should have been guiding some Spanish climbers but has arrived too late; they have gone without him. Fearing them lost following an avalanche, the two go to search the mountainside but instead of tracking down the climbers, Paul has a curious encounter with a strange ape-like creature. Overwhelmed by fear and loathing he runs away.

Going back to base, Paul finds out that his old teacher, Jim Carbone, is dying and despite making every effort to avoid going home, he eventually ends up waiting at his deathbed. Jim's death is just the start as Paul finds himself taking a journey that leads him to question the boundaries between life and death.

This short and intense story has a dream-like quality. Rich in descriptive details it raises questions of the mysteries of our existence and is a compulsive page-turner. Alternatively realistic and darkly nightmarish, this is a grim and twisting narrative that leads us up a trail but produces no pat answers to our fears.
