Letter M - Here is the story!
Dave Barnett was a good friend of ours, more than once we worked with him in producing some wonderful presentations of his books (Don't kid yourself, we have no talent, it was all Dave, we just supplied the funds!), the Damned was one of those projects. There were 17 books bound in tan cloth, 13 were lettered A through M, two were marked "PC," 1 had our name and one had Bill's name. As far as we know there were 19 boxes, as far as we know there were 13 were lettered A through M, three were blank (we had two, one of which we put our "PC" book in and sold and one we currently have for sale with a PC of the limited edition, the builder of the box, who received one of the two PC copies of the lettered book which we believe was later marked with someone's name and is out there) and cases marked with Camelot, David G. Barnett and Bill.
We, Camelot had 11 of the 13 lettered books to sell to our customers, Dave took Letters A and M. That was the end of the story, the last lettered copy we had was Bill's which we sold three years ago for $1995! Fast forward, sadly we lost Dave, time passes and we go to pick up Dave's books and find his empty traycase, time passes again and looking for something totally different on ABE and we find letter M without a box for sale! We know that Dave had letter M, what happened to M's box we have no idea, but we do know, from the rubbing that at some point it was in a box. We figured what better to do with it but to marry it to Dave's box since it stated life with Dave!
Now the book does have some condition issues, there are lots of pictures to look at, but mainly the ribbon marker has been cut out, there is some rubbing to three of the corners and the front of the book, most noticeably the "M" in Damned and the "v" in David, along with some indentations in the leather (these issues are clearly because it was in one of the "cages/boxes" as the rubbing is clearly from the rivets on the inside of the gates from the book sliding up and down). Over all it is still a real nice presentation in one of the most unique presentations Dave ever produced!
