In January 2012, NewCon Press launched their new Imaginings series with Cold Grey Stones, a volume of fiction from Tanith Lee: eleven wonderful and rich-textured stories, all previously uncollected, five of which appeared for the first time anywhere and all of which deserved to be treasured. Available only as a signed limited edition hardback, Cold Grey Stones sold out in a matter of weeks, and I could have sold the print run twice over.

Tanith had originally intended to write one further new story for the book: “The Frost Watcher”, a tale inspired by her husband John’s cover art. In the event, for a variety of reasons, “The Frost Watcher” failed to be either completed or included. Tanith and I have always regretted that the stories in Cold Grey Stones never reached a wider audience… And in the interim, of course, “The Frost Watcher” has been written. It seems foolish to publish this extraordinary novelette anywhere other than beneath the cover that inspired it. So, we have taken the decision to issue Colder Greyer Stones, a paperback only collection containing all the stories in the original volume but with the addition of this new tale, which finally appears where it was always intended to.

The fact that the book’s release coincides with Tanith being honoured at World Fantasy Convention 2013 with a ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ only makes the appearance of the expanded and retitled Colder Greyer Stones all the more appropriate.

*Features the brand new novelette The Frost Watcher (12,500 words)*
