These stories, written from 1976 to 1981, and appearing in various men’s magazines and other outlets, offer Ketchum readers a look into this author’s formulative years. This is where Jack Ketchum honed his writing craft that has become so well known with his novels The Girl Next Door, The Crossing, Off Season and The Lost. Collected here is his character simply known as the “Stroup” stories written under the pseudonym Jerzy Livingston, which are rare and difficult to locate almost thirty years after the original publications gave them life. “I've called these the Jerzy Livingston years because over half of them were written under that name and the rest under my real one. Somehow Jerzy seems more appropriate for this collection. My adoption of that particular pseudonym was both a joke — a play on words —and a nod to a very good writer, which I hoped some day to be.” – Jack Ketchum, from the author’s introduction.
Ketchum takes us from the hardcore times of the ‘70’s and early 80’s when free sex, free love, and everything related in between was a dream living on borrowed time. But after reading Ketchum’s stories, what a dream it was. A total of eighteen stories appear here, some published for the first time or virtually impossible to find at all can now be found in Broken On The Wheel of Sex: The Jerzy Livingston Years, published by Sideshow Press in 1999.
Limited Edition of 350 signed and numbered copies
Lettered Edition of 26 signed and lettered copies housed in a traycase. Both book and traycase are uniquely bound in latex rubber! There is a picture of Jack Ketchum mounted to the inside lid of the traycase.
Lettered PC Edition - it is our understanding that because the binder had only a limited amount of laytex material t that the PC copies that were produced, or at least some of them were bound in a fake maroon snakeskin with the traycase being quarter bound (the spine only) in laytex and the remainder of the traycase bound in the matching fake snakeskin, the traycase does not contain the picture of Jack on the inside cover. We don't know how many of these PC copies of the lettered state were produced.
David G. Barnett - You will notice that there are a number of books we are listing that will have the designation of DB, Dave Barnett, David Barnett, Necro, Necro Dave, etc. in the limitation line. Dave was a great friend of ours, whose life was tragically ended way too short in an auto accident in 2021. Dave was a book designer (we will be listing a number of books by other publishers which he either designed or were sent to him and they will be designated as listed above) and publisher, his imprints were known as Necro Publications, Bedlam Press and Weird Press Books, among others. We have acquired his personal collection (and working on getting overstock from his business to his authors (if you were published by Dave and we have not gotten in touch with you please reach out to us at tony@camelotbooks.com) the book listed in this listing is from his personal collection and marked as such.
