The novel takes place in L.A. in 2179 where the police are androids brewed in vats, and Thomas, a wanted runaway monk, joins a theater group putting on a stage production of Shakespeare’s As You Like It, but the production is a cover for a covert resistance force planning to take over the city and institute a new government.
